Before Getting Started

Before you can activate your monitoring plan, make sure that you have created a SimpliSafe® account and installed your system at your desired location.

You’ll also want to familiarise yourself with the monitoring plans we offer so you can find the best option for you and your home. To learn more about our monitoring plans, how much each plan costs, and the features they include, visit the What are the service plan options article in our Help Centre.

How to Activate Monitoring on an Existing System

If you have been using your SimpliSafe® system without subscribing to a paid plan, please follow the instructions in the How do I Change My Monitoring Plan article to set up monitoring.

How to Activate Monitoring on a New System

If you have just set up your SimpliSafe® system and are ready to activate monitoring, please follow the steps below.

Using the SimpliSafe® Mobile App

If you’re using a mobile device, the process will differ slightly depending on whether or not this is the first system you’re setting up with us.

If this is the first and only system on your account:

Open up the SimpliSafe® Mobile App on your smartphone or tablet and log in to your account

Note: if this is your first time logging in to your account, you will need to use the email address you used when ordering your system. If you have forgotten your password, use the Forgot Password link.

Tap the Activate Monitoring button in the centre of the screen.
Follow the directions on the screen to activate your monitoring service. When setting up your plan, you will need your Base Station serial number (which is printed on the bottom of your Base Station) and your credit card information (unless you’ve already purchased a monitoring plan in your initial order.)
Once your monitoring service has been activated, you will receive an email that your system has been put into Practice Mode for three days. After the three days have finished, you will receive another email that your monitoring service is active.

If this is not the first system you’re setting up with us, or you have another location on your account with active monitoring:

Open up the SimpliSafe® Mobile App on your smartphone or tablet and log in to your account
Tap the three-bar menu in the top left corner of the screen.
Select Install A New System in the main menu.
Tap Let’s Go.
Choose a property you’d like to activate a new monitoring plan for. If you have a property with previously installed SimpliSafe® devices, you can select it here and add monitoring to your system. Otherwise, select “No, this is a new location” to set up monitoring for a new address.
Follow the directions on the screen to activate your monitoring service. When setting up your plan, you will need your Base Station serial number (which is printed on the bottom of your Base Station) and your credit card information (unless you’ve already purchased a monitoring plan in your initial order.)

Using the SimpliSafe® Web App

Log in to your account at webapp.simplisafe.com.

Note: if this is your first time logging in to your account, you will need to use the email address you used when ordering your system. If you have forgotten your password, use the “forgot password” link.

On the homepage, click “Activate Monitoring” in the middle of the screen.
Click “Add Or Upgrade Monitoring” to activate monitoring, or change your current plan.
Click on the monitoring service plan you would like to subscribe to, and then input your credit card information.
Once your monitoring service has been activated, you will receive an email that your system has been put into Practice Mode for three days. After the three days have finished, you will receive another email that your monitoring service is active.
