  • How to Change the Default Settings for the Original SimpliSafe® System

    The Original SimpliSafe® Keypad

Does your Keypad look like the one pictured to the left? Then you're in the right place! You've got the Original SimpliSafe system. If you purchased a new system in 2018 or later, you likely have the Gen 3 SimpliSafe. In that case, visit the Base Station and System Settings article. If you're not certain which system you have, you can learn the difference between them on our Help Center.

You can add products, remove products, and change your Master PIN through the Keypad’s menu. Instructions to do so are located on the Navigating the Original SimpliSafe® Keypad Menu article. SimpliSafe® Original has a variety of device and system settings that can be managed from your smartphone or tablet on the SimpliSafe® app.

    Setup your PIN

Under Setup your PIN, you can update your Master PIN, add/remove a Duress PIN, and add/remove User PINs. SimpliSafe® Original allows up to four User PINs, for a total of 5 PINs which can be used to arm/disarm the system.

The Master PIN is the only PIN that will allow you to access the Keypad’s menu, from which you can update your Master PIN or add/remove components.

The Duress PIN is worthwhile for users who subscribe to one of our professional monitoring plans. If entered, the Duress PIN will disarm your SimpliSafe® system, and notify our monitoring center to send help right away.

  • Is a Wi-Fi Connection or Computer Needed to Use the Original SimpliSafe® System?

    The Original SimpliSafe® Keypad

Does your Keypad look like the one pictured to the left? Then you're in the right place! You've got the Original SimpliSafe® system. If you purchased a new system in 2018 or later, you likely have the Gen 3 SimpliSafe®. In that case, see the Does SimpliSafe® Require Wi-Fi or a Computer to Work article. If you're not certain which system you have, you can learn the difference between the systems on our Help Center.

Everything you need to set up the SimpliSafe® Home Security System is included. If you have access to a computer, you will have access to additional features and settings, but it is not required. Just plug your Keychain Remote (which has a built-in USB device) into a USB port of your computer and the SimpliSafe® Easy Setup Wizard will launch and guide you through setting up and using your home security system.

However, the SimpliCam® Indoor Camera and Video Doorbell Pro do require Wi-Fi and access to the SimpliSafe® app through either Google Play Store (must have Android version 12.0 or higher) or the iOS App Store (must have iOS 17.0 or higher).

IMPORTANT UPDATE: With Adobe Flash discontinued, we are no longer able to update keychains as the remote’s software is no longer operational. However, the remote will still work to arm and disarm your system, as well as trigger the panic button. You can also contact customer support to upgrade to our latest SimpliSafe® system which does not require use of the Keychain Remote USB.

  • Original SimpliSafe® Glassbreak Sensor Installation Guide

    The Original SimpliSafe® Keypad

Does your Keypad look like the one pictured to the left? Then you're in the right place! You've got the Original SimpliSafe® system. If you purchased a new system in 2018 or later, you likely have the Gen 3 SimpliSafe®. You can learn more about the differences between the two systems on our Help Center.

Please note that we no longer sell Glassbreak Sensors for the Original SimpliSafe® system. If you are having an issue with your Original SimpliSafe® Glassbreak Sensor, our Support team can tell you more about our upgrade offers.

Glassbreak Sensors are programmed to listen for the specific frequency of broken glass. They should be installed within twenty feet of the windows you want protected. However, if you have windows with heavy curtains we recommend installing your Glassbreak Sensors 5-10 feet away from your windows. Glassbreak Sensors are designed to be installed on the wall, however, they can be placed on the edge of a flat surface if a corner or wall are not available.

NOTE: You can turn down the sensitivity of the Glassbreak Sensor via the switch on the back of the sensor. Simply slide the Glassbreak Sensor off its bracket, and you will expose a small black switch. Slide it towards the "L" to lower the sensitivity.

To install your Glassbreak Sensor remove the white battery activation strip hanging out of the battery compartment. Next, remove the liner from the adhesive strip attached to the Glassbreak Sensor’s bracket, and adhere the Glassbreak Sensor to the surface in the location you want it to be installed. Make sure that your Glassbreak Sensor is facing the windows you want it to secure. Press and hold the Glassbreak Sensor for 30 seconds to ensure it is firmly attached to the wall. If you would prefer your Glassbreak Sensor to be permanently attached to the wall, slide it up off of it’s bracket, and you can use the included screws to attach the bracket to the surface. After, slide your Glassbreak Sensor back on to the bracket, and it is installed.

Please note that we no longer sell Motion Sensors for the Original SimpliSafe® system. If you are having an issue with your Original SimpliSafe® Motion Sensor, our Support team can tell you more about our upgrade offers.

Your Motion Sensors use infrared (heat) sensing technology to detect when someone has entered the room. They can detect motion within 30 feet, and have a 90-degree field of view. The best place for a Motion Sensor is in a central room, or hallway in your home. The ideal location for a Motion Sensor is in the corner of a room, and 4-5 feet off of the ground for maximum coverage. Motion Sensors are designed to be placed on the edge of a flat surface as well if a corner or wall are not available.

Try to avoid installing Motion Sensors next to or facing a heater, air conditioner, lamp, or electronics. You may endure a false alarm if you install a Motion Sensor next to, or facing these objects. If you have a pet under 30 pounds they should not be able to trip a Motion Sensor, unless it can get within 5 feet of the sensor. If your pet is more than 30 pounds or is tripping the alarm, you can install the Motion Sensor upside down (test button facing the ceiling).

NOTE: You can turn down the sensitivity of the Motion Sensor via the switch on the back of the sensor. Simply slide the Motion Sensor off its bracket, and you will expose a small black switch. Slide it towards the "L" to lower the sensitivity.

To install your Motion Sensor you will need to remove the white battery activation tab from the back of the Motion Sensor. Next, remove the adhesive strip attached to the Motion Sensor’s bracket, and adhere the Motion Sensor to the surface in the location you want it to be installed. Press and hold the Motion Sensor for 30 seconds to ensure it is firmly attached to the wall. If you would prefer the Motion Sensor to be permanently attached to the wall, slide the Motion Sensor up off of its bracket, and you can use the included screws to attach the bracket to the surface. After, slide the Motion Sensor back onto the bracket, and it is installed.

  • Original SimpliSafe® Base Station Installation Guide

    The Original SimpliSafe® Keypad

Does your Keypad look like the one pictured to the left? Then you're in the right place! You've got the Original SimpliSafe® system. If you purchased a new system in 2018 or later, you likely have the Gen 3 SimpliSafe®. You can learn more about the differences between the two systems on our Help Center.

Please note that we no longer sell Base Stations for the Original SimpliSafe® system. If you are having an issue with your Original SimpliSafe® Base Station, our Support team can tell you more about our upgrade offers.

The first step to installing your Original SimpliSafe security system is to set up your Base Station. We recommend installing it in a central location to ensure that you can hear its built-in 85-decibel siren from anywhere in your home. We also advise users to install the Base Station 3-5 feet off of the floor, and 5 feet away from all major electronics.

To install your Base Station you will want to start by removing the Base Station from the box. Next, plug the Base Station into a power outlet using the included power adapter. The Base Station will display a blue light, and provide a voice prompt stating that your Base Station is in test mode. Once your Base Station is finished speaking you can continue with installing the rest of your devices.

  • Original SimpliSafe® Smoke Detector Installation Guide

    The Original SimpliSafe® Keypad

Does your Keypad look like the one pictured to the left? Then you're in the right place! You've got the Original SimpliSafe® system. If you purchased a new system in 2018 or later, you likely have the Gen 3 SimpliSafe®. In that case, see our Smoke Detector Installation Guide. If you're not certain which system you have, visit the Which Version of the SimpliSafe® System Do I Have article.

Please note that we no longer sell Smoke Detectors for the Original SimpliSafe® system. If you are having an issue with your Original SimpliSafe® Smoke Detector, our Support team can tell you more about our upgrade offers.

We recommend installing Smoke Detectors near bedrooms, as well as having one on every floor of your home. Try to avoid installing Smoke Detectors near a furnace, stove, fireplace, kitchen, garage, or any bathroom with a shower. Installing Smoke Detectors in these locations may result in false alarms. We also suggest cleaning your Smoke Detector once a month to avoid dust or dirt build up, which can also cause a false alarm.

    To install your Smoke Detector

    1. Remove the white battery activation tab hanging from the battery compartment.

    2. Next, remove the Smoke Detector from it’s mounting bracket by rotating the Smoke Detector counterclockwise

    3. Install the bracket to your wall or ceiling using the included screws and wall anchors.

    4. Once the bracket is secure grab your Smoke Detector, position it against the bracket, and twist your Smoke Detector clockwise until it clicks into place. You can pull gently on your Smoke Detector to make sure it is securely attached.

We recommend installing the Smoke Detector near sleeping areas, and on each level of your home. You should not install the Smoke Detector near the furnace, stove, fireplace, kitchen, garage, or near a bathroom with a shower.

NOTE: A yellow solid light indicates that the Smoke Detector is not attached to the bracket properly, and needs to be adjusted. There should be no solid lights when the Smoke Detector is installed properly.

If you are installing a new Smoke Detector to an existing system it can be added through your Keypad, or the Easy Setup Wizard. View the Adding New Devices to Your Original SimpliSafe® System article for additional information.
