Original SimpliSafe

Congratulations on purchasing the Original SimpliSafe® security system! Peace of mind is important, and now whenever you are away from home you will be at ease knowing your house is protected.

Install Core Devices

The first step to installing your SimpliSafe® security system is to set up your Base Station. We recommend installing it in a central location to ensure that you can hear its built-in 85 decibel siren from anywhere in your home. We also advise users to install the Base Station 3-5 feet off of the floor, and 5 feet away from all major electronics. 

First, you will want to remove the Base Station from the box. Next, plug the Base Station into a power outlet using the power adapter included in the packaging.The Base Station will display a blue light, and provide a voice prompt stating that your Base Station is in test mode. Once your Base Station is finished speaking you can continue with installing your core devices.

The next step to installing your Original SimpliSafe® security system is to install your Keypad(s). First, pull the battery tab from the Keypad that you are installing. The Keypad screen will display, “Welcome to SimpliSafe®.” Remove the liner from the adhesive strips attached to the Keypad bracket, and adhere it to the wall. Press and hold the Keypad to the wall for 30 seconds to ensure that it is firmly attached to the wall. The Keypad comes with screws for installation as well if you would prefer your Keypad to be more secure. Simply slide the Keypad up off of it’s bracket, and you can screw the Keypad bracket to the wall. Once the bracket has been screwed into the wall slide the Keypad back on to it’s bracket. We suggest installing your Keypad near the door you use the most to enter and exit your home

Install Other Devices

For all sensors other than the Base Station, initial Keypad, and Cameras, follow the below instructions on where and how to install them.

Once you've installed the rest of your devices we suggest installing your cameras. For Indoor Cameras, refer to the SimpliCam® Wired Indoor Camera Installation Guide. For Video Doorbell Cameras, refer to the Video Doorbell Pro Installation Guide.

Activate Monitoring (Optional)

Once you’ve finished installing your system, activate monitoring by visiting https://mobileapp.simplisafe.com/activate. You may need the serial number listed on the bottom of your Base Station.

We strongly recommend that you subscribe your security system to professional monitoring. Our monitoring centers are open 24 hours a day 365 days a year, so you can be confident whether you are at work or going to sleep that your home is protected. You can be notified immediately via email or text message as well with push notifications, if you are enrolled in our interactive professional monitoring. Test Your System

We recommend testing your sensors and system to ensure that you have installed everything correctly. Test mode can be accessed by navigating the menu of your Keypad.

1. Press Menu.

2. Enter Your Primary PIN (If not set up the default PIN is 1234).

3. The Keypad screen will display, “To navigate menu use keys below icons.” 

4. Press “5” on your Keypad.

5. Test your devices. 

   1. To test the Motion Sensor: Press the "test" button underneath the sensor. For an accurate test, leave the room for the sensor you are testing then wait 15 seconds. Re-enter the room and the Base Station will say "Motion Sensor."

   2. To test the Glassbreak Sensor: Press the "test" button on the bottom of the sensor and then clap your hands loudly near your windows. The light on the sensor will flash and you will hear the Base Station say "Glassbreak Sensor."

   3. To test the Entry Sensor: Open and close protected doors and windows. The Base Station will say "Entry Sensor" to confirm it has received the signal.

   4. To test the Panic Button: Hold the Panic Button down for 1 second. The Base Station will say "Panic Button" when it receives the signal.

   5. To test Smoke Detectors: Hold the "test" button on the front of the sensor for 4 seconds. The sensor will beep 3 times, then the Base Station will say "Smoke Detector."

   6. To test Carbon Monoxide Detectors: Hold the "test" button on the front of the sensor for 4 seconds. The sensor will beep 4 times, then the Base Station will say "Carbon Monoxide Detector."

   7. To test Water and Temperature Sensors: Press the "test" button on the top of each sensor. The Base Station will announce the sensor type to confirm that it has received the signal.

6. Press "Menu" on your Keypad twice to exit Test Mode.

If you are subscribed to professional monitoring a test signal will appear in your online dashboard

Congratulations! Your home is now protected with SimpliSafe®.

If you are installing a new Entry Sensor to an existing system it can be added through your Keypad.

Sensors are essential to protecting your home. They should be installed on doors and windows that are easily accessible from the outside, especially on the ground floor. Entry Sensors are made up of two parts: a magnet to install on your door or window, and a sensor to install on the doorframe or window frame. However, depending on your home, the installation of your Entry Sensor may be different. The most important part of installation is making sure that the magnet aligns between the two grooves on the sensor, and that they are less than two inches apart from each other when the door or window are closed. 

If you open a door or window with an Entry Sensor installed on it the sensor will flash a blue status light once indicating that the magnet and sensor have been separated more than two inches. The sensor will flash the blue status light twice when you close the door or window, and the magnet returns within two inches of the sensor. 

Opening a door or window that has an Entry Sensor installed on it will also trigger the Base Station to make a chime sound when the system is disarmed. If your system is armed, and an entry sensor is triggered the alarm will sound. 

To install your Entry Sensor pull the white battery activation strip hanging from the sensor’s battery compartment. Next, remove the liner from the adhesive strip on the sensor’s bracket, and adhere it to the corner of your doorframe or window frame. Press and hold the sensor for 30 seconds to ensure it is firmly attached. If you would prefer a more secure installation, slide the sensor up off of it’s bracket, and screw the bracket into the doorframe or window frame. Once you have finished securing the bracket slide the sensor back on to the bracket, and it is installed. Repeat these steps with the magnet, however you will be installing the magnet on the door or window. Remember the magnet must align between the two grooves on the sensor, and they should be less than two inches apart when the door or window are closed.

IMPORTANT UPDATE: With Adobe Flash discontinued, we are no longer able to update keychains as the remote’s software is no longer operational. However, the remote will still work to arm and disarm your system, as well as trigger the panic button. You can also contact customer support to upgrade to our new SimpliSafe system that does not require use of the Keychain Remote USB.

The Keychain Remote provides an alternative way to arm and disarm your system. It is small enough to fit in your pocket, and has a swiveling keyring that allows you to easily attach it to your car keys.  The Keychain Remote features three buttons, “Away, Off, and Panic.” If you are in a rush, or can’t get to your Keypad in time simply use your Keychain Remote to arm or disarm your system. If there is an emergency, or someone breaks into your house while you’re home, hold down the panic button for 2 seconds to trigger the alarm. Also, if you hold down the “Away & Off,” buttons at the same time for 5 seconds it will arm your system in “Home,” mode. 

Keychain Remotes that have a USB installed on the top are considered Master Keychain Remotes, and there should only be 1 used per system. Additional Keychain Remotes do not have a USB installed, but function the same as Master Keychain Remotes. 

Keychain Remotes do not have a white battery activation strip to remove, and they are ready for use once you install your system.

The Temperature Sensor triggers an alarm when your home’s temperature goes above or below the temperature range that you set. If the Temperature Sensor detects temperatures outside of the designated range your Base Station will sound the alarm. If you are subscribed to professional monitoring you will also receive a call from the monitoring company as well informing you of the change in temperature.

To install your Temperature Sensor remove the white battery activation strip hanging from the battery compartment. Next, remove the liner from the adhesive strip located on the Sensor’s bracket, and adhere it to the wall. Press and hold the Sensor for 30 seconds to ensure it is firmly attached to the wall. If you would prefer a more secure installation of your Temperature Sensor slide it up off of its bracket and use the included screws to permanently attach the bracket to a surface. Once you have finished, slide the Sensor back onto its bracket, and it is installed.

We recommend installing your Temperature Sensor near the thermostat so that it can keep tabs on the temperature in your home, or near plumbing that is prone to freezing.

Each Wireless Siren is equipped with adhesive strips, and screws for installation. 

Adhesive Strips: Remove the liner on each adhesive strip attached to the Wireless Siren bracket. Next, adhere the Wireless Siren to a smooth surface. Press and hold the Wireless Siren for 30 seconds to ensure it is firmly attached to the surface.

Screws: If you would prefer a more secure installation of your Wireless Siren, slide the Siren up off of the bracket. Now, you can adhere the bracket to the surface using the screws. Slide the Wireless Siren back onto the bracket, and it is installed.

NOTE: Your Wireless Siren(s) must be installed within 100 feet of the Base Station in order to function properly.

Syncing Your Wireless Siren(s)

Once you have installed your Wireless Siren(s), you will need to synchronize the Siren(s) with the rest of your security system. 

1. Slide the Wireless Siren up off of the bracket, retrieve one of your Keychain Remotes, and carry the components over to the Base Station. 

2. Press and hold the black Programming button located on the back of your Wireless Siren.

3. While holding down the Programming button on your Wireless Siren, repeatedly press the Off button on your Keychain Remote until you hear a single, “Beep,” from the Wireless Siren.

4. Your Wireless Siren has now been synchronized, and you can slide it back onto the bracket. 

5. Repeat this process with all of your Wireless Sirens.

If you do not have a Keychain Remote you can synchronize your Wireless Siren(s) using your Keypad(s).

1. Slide the Wireless Siren up off of the bracket, and slide your Keypad up off of its bracket as well.

2. Carry both components over to the Base Station. 

3. Press and hold the black Programming button located on the back of your Wireless Siren. 

4. While holding down the Programming button on your Wireless Siren, press Off on the Keypad, and enter your PIN repeatedly until you hear a single, “Beep,” from the Wireless Siren.

5. Your Wireless Siren is synchronized, and you can return the Siren and Keypad back to their original locations. 

6. Repeat this process with the rest of your Wireless Sirens.

How To Make Your Extra Wireless Siren(s) Mimic Entry Delay Countdown Beeps

By default our Wireless Sirens are programmed to mimic the entry delay countdown beeps made by the Keypads. However, if you notice that your Wireless Siren is not mimicking the entry delay countdown beeps follow these helpful steps.

1. Slide your Wireless Siren up off of the bracket, and walk over to the Base Station.

2. Repeatedly press the black Programming button located on the back of your Wireless Siren until you hear 2, “Beeps.” Your Wireless Siren will now mimic entry delay countdown beeps. 

3. Adhere your Wireless Siren back to the bracket.

4. Repeat these steps with all of your Wireless Sirens if you want them to mimic the entry delay countdown beeps as well.

If your Wireless Siren does mimic the entry delay countdown beeps, but you do not want it to mimic, repeat the steps above. However, you will want to repeatedly press the Programming button until you hear a single, “Beep.” The single, “Beep,” indicates that your Wireless Siren will not mimic the entry delay countdown beeps. 

NOTE: The Wireless Sirens do not mimic exit delay countdown beeps.

If there is an emergency you can trigger an alarm using your Panic Button. The majority of homeowners prefer to install their Panic Button in the primary bedroom, however, you can install it anywhere that you believe would be easily accessible during an emergency. We recommend adhering it to a wall so that it does not get lost or misplaced. To trigger your Panic Button press and hold the button for two seconds, and the alarm will sound. The Panic Button can trigger your alarm when the system is disarmed as well.

To install your Panic Button remove the white battery activation strip hanging from the battery compartment. Next, remove the liner of the adhesive strip attached to the Panic Button’s bracket, and adhere the Panic Button to a smooth surface. Press and hold the Panic Button for 30 seconds to ensure it is attached to the surface. If you would prefer your Panic Button to be more secure, slide the Panic Button up off of its bracket, and use the included screws to permanently attach the bracket to a surface. Once you have finished, slide the Panic Button back onto its bracket, and it is installed.

The Original SimpliSafe® System can have up to 39 devices (41 if you include the Keypad and Master Keychain Remote.) To add a product to your system, you can use either the SimpliSafe® Mobile App or Keypad using the steps below.

Using an iOS (Apple) Device

1. Choose My System from the bottom navigation bar

2. Select Device Settings

3. Tap the plus icon on the top right corner of the screen and follow the on-screen instructions

Using an Android Device

1. Choose My System from the bottom navigation bar

2. Select Device Settings

3. Scroll down to the bottom of the screen and select + Add Device

4. Follow the on-screen instructions to add your sensor

Using the Keypad

1. Press Menu on your Keypad and enter your Master PIN.

2. Press the #3 button and the Keypad will display “3) Add Component”, press the Away key to enter.

3. Using the Off and Home keys, cycle to the type of device you are installing and press the Away key to select.

4. Using the number pad, enter the serial number of the sensor you are installing and press Away to submit. The Keypad will display “Component Added” to confirm.
